Jake Paul dismissed critics claiming his decision win over Mike Tyson was “rigged,” attributing the perception to Tyson not hitting him as hard as seen in training videos, while also expressing frustration that fans were determined to criticize the fight regardless of the outcome.
Jake Paul hears the chatter. Critics are saying his decision win over Mike Tyson was “rigged.” Why? Because Tyson didn’t hit him as hard as he did in those viral training videos.
“People are like, ‘Oh yeah, it’s rigged because look at him on the pads but he didn’t do this in the fight,’” Paul said on Impaulsive. “Because someone is fcking punching back, you dumb fcks.”
Paul thinks folks don’t get it. “People don’t realize my power, my jab, my speed,” he continued. His footwork made Tyson miss, throwing punches at air.
“He can’t land those punches on me,” Paul added confidently.
The fight, an eight-round affair with the former heavyweight champ, streamed to over 100 million viewers on Netflix. Many faced system and buffering issues throughout—what a mess!
Was it thrilling? Not really. But Paul sees boxing like any sport—good days and bad ones. He believes fans would’ve complained regardless of the outcome.
“What do they want?” Paul asked. “They just want me to lose. That’s the only way they’d find it entertaining.”
“This is fighting. This is the sport,” he explained. Sometimes NFL games end with low scores and are boring too.
“What happened happened,” Paul shrugged. “All possibilities are there when you go into a fight.” Even if he’d knocked Tyson out, critics would still find something to hate on.
Despite Tyson’s lackluster offense, Paul admired his defense during those 16 minutes in the ring. He wished Tyson had turned back time a bit.
“He was hard to hit,” Paul admitted. “He was elusive. I missed a lot of punches.” How did Tyson manage that?
“I wish he put up a better fight so I could’ve risen more,” Paul reflected. “He was surviving—that was the only thing I didn’t like.”
