Jake Paul, who has recently won a boxing match against Nate Diaz, is eager to face Diaz in an MMA rematch and believes he could defeat the UFC veteran with dedicated training, despite Diaz being the odds-on favorite.
Jake Paul is not contempt with merely defeating Nate Diaz in a boxing match. In a recent match, Paul claimed a unanimous victory over Diaz, making the running Paul-Diaz series tally 1-0 in Paul’s favor. This victory had been anticipated by Paul, as he was confident enough before their fight to propose a future MMA rematch to the champion Diaz for a whooping $10 million. The scenario however is complicated by the fact that Paul is presently contracted to the PFL, while Diaz, a UFC veteran has expressed an inclination towards returning to UFC for future MMA bouts.
For the proposed MMA fight, Diaz is expected to be an overwhelming favorite. However, this doesn’t deter Paul who is convinced with enough practice and training, he can outperform Diaz who has thirty-four fights under his belt. Displaying a sense of humor, Paul is heard laughing on his brother Logan’s Impaulsive podcast, asserting that he can win the MMA fight. To affirm his stance, he states, “Not right now, but in a year maybe,” indicating his will and determination to train hard and translate his dreams to reality.
His confidence possibly is stemmed from a particular moment during their last fight. In the tenth round, Diaz appeared to have had Paul locked in a guillotine choke for a brief moment. Though Paul managed to slip away and despite the fact that Diaz could have been disqualified had he locked Paul in, it was enough for Diaz to later humorously claim, that under MMA rules he had technically won. Paul, however, eventually intends to put to rest all speculations, as he is confident Diaz’s advantage in mixing martial arts wouldn’t matter.
“If I can prepare for it, the crazy thing about it, I’ve done the calculations in my head,” Paul claims. He has also visualized the fight, banking on his boxing skills, wrestling experience, and ability to defend kicks to his advantage. He asserts that Diaz cannot take him down and that he will emerge victorious. Even as the match is far from being official, Paul has plenty of options including participating in another boxing match before venturing into MMA. Regardless, he remains firm in his belief that should he debut in MMA, he is bound to be successful with proper training.
