Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill has been arrested and charged with domestic assault after allegedly punching his brother during an argument over house cleaning and family matters.
Jamahal Hill’s recent arrest details are now in the open, thanks to a police report. The Kentwood Police Department let the cat out of the bag to MMA Fighting. The ex-UFC light heavyweight champ got arrested on Nov. 27. The charge? Domestic assault. The victim? His brother, James.
The report spills the beans on the agreement between the UFC fighter and his brother. James and his wife were to clean Jamahal’s house for $300. The house was vacant, electricity-less, and filled with rotting food. Around 7 p.m., an argument about the cleaning and “other family matters” broke out.
Things got ugly, according to the alleged victim. Hill allegedly stripped off his shirt, got in his brother’s face, and punched him. James hit the ground. The report goes on, saying James got up when his wife tried to intervene. Jamahal allegedly bypassed her and punched James again, knocking him down and leaving him dazed.
James lost a tooth in the alleged dispute. His face swelled up significantly. The report also mentions a heated argument about Jamahal’s lack of communication with his daughter who was at their house for Thanksgiving. James accused Jamahal of disrespecting women and neglecting his daughter. The first punch was supposedly a “sucker punch.”
James was torn about calling the cops. He didn’t want to ruin Jamahal’s UFC career. But he sent multiple texts to Jamahal, asking for a reason and an apology. He got no response.
An unidentified witness backed up James’ story. The witness said Jamahal took off his shirt because James was allegedly “speaking truth.” The witness also said that Jamahal didn’t touch her while allegedly delivering the second punch to James. Jamahal’s three kids were present during the incident.
The arresting officer took the UFC light heavyweight into custody shortly after midnight. No drama there. Hill was read his rights and asked if he wanted to chat with the officer. Hill’s response? “I want to talk to my lawyer.” He was then booked at the Kent County Correctional Facility. The Prosecutor’s Office believed there was enough evidence to charge Hill with misdemeanor aggravated domestic violence.
Hill addressed his arrest on his YouTube channel. He said, “There’s been a lot of reports out today about the situation that happened when I was back home in Michigan, visiting for the holidays. I will just say this, at this time it is an open case. I’ve been advised not to speak on it, which I know not to speak on it. I just can’t wait for the truth to be told in court. I will wait for that day and I look forward to that day. The people who know me and know my character and truly, truly rock with me and know who I am, hold onto that and stay true to that. That’s all I’m a say on that.”
