Jamahal Hill suffered a knockout loss to Alex Pereira in the UFC 300 main event, his first fight back after a torn Achilles’ tendon, but has promised to return soon.
Saturday night’s UFC 300 main event didn’t go as planned for Jamahal Hill. He suffered a brutal knockout loss to Alex Pereira.
This was Hill’s comeback fight after a torn Achilles’ tendon abruptly ended his light heavyweight title reign. He dove headfirst back into the fray, aiming for the 205-pound belt on the year’s biggest card. But Pereira had a different script in mind. He landed a crushing left hook that sent Hill crashing in the first round.
Post-fight, Hill took to social media. He shared a brief health update and assured his fans he’d be back soon.
“Well, that’s how the cookie crumbles,” Hill mused. “Got caught. For those who care, I’m okay. Still partying tonight. We’re at Hakkasan. We’ll bounce back.”
Hill’s recovery from his Achilles injury was nothing short of miraculous. He sustained the injury during a casual basketball game in July and managed to prep for the UFC 300 card in April.
Despite the long hiatus, injury rehab, and his last fight dating back to January 2023, Hill was confident. He believed he could dethrone Pereira on Saturday.
Hill didn’t seem intimidated by one of the sport’s most fearsome strikers. Both fighters were cautious initially. The game-changing moment came when Hill landed a low body kick. Pereira responded with a combination that ended with the knockout punch.
Pereira’s shot connected, and Hill went down. He hit the canvas hard.
Pereira didn’t let up. He followed Hill to the ground, landing a few more punches. The referee called it when Hill went limp.
This is Hill’s second career defeat. His first was a submission loss to Paul Craig in 2021. After that, he scored four consecutive wins, including a title fight victory over Glover Teixeira.
After this loss to Pereira at UFC 300, Hill will undoubtedly aim to regain that winning momentum.
