Jamahal Hill will be front and center for the light heavyweight title fight between Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira at UFC 295 with plans to challenge the winner in 2024 after relinquishing the title due to a torn Achilles tendon injury requiring surgery and subsequent recovery.
Jamahal Hill plans on challenging the winner of the light heavyweight title fight between Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira at UFC 295 in 2024. The vacant title came about after Hill suffered a torn Achilles tendon and underwent surgery. He ultimately relinquished the title to focus on recovery, a decision he felt was the right one given that Prochazka was ready to return. Hill underwent surgery with renowned surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who has operated on numerous high-profile athletes.
Hill’s injury was caused by tendinosis in the tendon, ultimately leading to a tear. Despite this, he is on schedule for a return to full MMA training in early 2024. His recovery process has been better than expected, and he hopes to make his return in the second quarter of the year. The UFC has promised Hill a title fight upon his return, along with the same champion purse and pay-per-view points.
Tendinosis, or the degeneration of the tendon’s collagen due to chronic overuse, played a role in Hill’s injury. Despite this, he is optimistic about his recovery and return to the octagon. With his eyes set on regaining the title, Hill is looking forward to getting back to training and eventually making his comeback in the UFC.
