James Gallagher is set to face James Gonzalez at Bellator 298, replacing Cris Lencioni who suffered cardiac arrest.
James Gallagher’s opponent for his August fight in the Bellator cage has been confirmed as James Gonzalez. Gallagher is set to face Gonzalez at Bellator 298, an event scheduled for August 11 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Gonzalez steps in to replace Cris Lencioni, who suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this month, as informed by Lencioni’s wife, Marca, in a social media post.
This upcoming fight marks Gallagher’s return to the cage after a couple of withdrawals since his last loss to Patchy Mix at Bellator 270 in November 2021. Prior to his loss, “The Strabanimal” had an impressive run with four consecutive victories, three of which came through submission. On the other hand, Gonzalez, a former CFFC champion, enters the fight with four wins in six matches.
Gonzalez’s recent record includes handing Cody Law his first professional loss at Bellator 282 in June 2022. However, in his latest fight, Gonzalez experienced a unanimous decision defeat against Aaron Pico at the Bellator 295 event in April. Bellator 298 will be headlined by a welterweight bout featuring Logan Storley and Brennan Ward.
