Interim ONE strawweight champion Jarred Brooks is moving up to flyweight for a fight against Reece McLaren at ONE Fight Night 26 on December 6 in Bangkok, following his interim title win after a disqualification loss earlier this year.
Interim ONE strawweight champion Jarred Brooks is gearing up for a big change. He’s moving up to flyweight, set to face Reece McLaren at ONE Fight Night 26 on Dec. 6, happening at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The match-up was confirmed by ONE Championship officials to MMA Fighting on Thursday. Exciting stuff!
Brooks’ decision to move up is intriguing. He once held the ONE strawweight title but lost it due to an illegal slam against Joshua Pacio in March. Instead of getting a rematch right away, he snagged the interim strawweight title by defeating Gustavo Balart with a rear naked choke in August.
Now, he’s stepping into the flyweight division. Interestingly, there’s no current champion there since Demetrious Johnson retired in September. Brooks still keeps his interim strawweight title, though.
Since joining ONE Championship, Brooks boasts a 5-1 record. His sole loss? A disqualification. Talk about a rollercoaster ride!
On the other hand, McLaren is a seasoned pro, having been with ONE since 2015. He’s been a constant contender and has gone 3-1 in his last four fights. A win over Brooks could put him in line for the vacant flyweight title.
ONE Fight Night 26 is shaping up to be quite the event on Dec. 6 in Thailand. More fights are expected to be announced soon. Stay tuned!
