Jens Pulver Reflects on His Remarkable Hall of Fame Induction Experience

Jens Pulver, the UFC’s first ever lightweight champion, has expressed his overwhelming joy and satisfaction at being inducted into the UFC’s Hall of Fame, stating that the experience exceeded his wildest expectations and was a perfect culmination to his career.

Jens Pulver’s recent induction into the UFC Hall of Fame is described eloquently in his own words. A true pioneer in this field, Pulver was the first ever lightweight champion and a guiding force in the development of sub-170 pound weight divisions in MMA. His induction into the Hall of Fame marks an exciting capstone to a phenomenal career that included his debut in 1999 and winning the UFC inaugural lightweight two years later. Known as “Lil’ Evil,” Pulver shows a softer side, articulating his joy and euphoria at the event, absorbing and cherishing every moment. He was particularly excited about the filming of a “Where Are They Now?” episode which features his induction. Struggling to find the right words, Pulver conveys how deeply touched he was by the occasion, the attendees, and their emotional investment in the moment.

Pulver’s career spans 14 years, marked by his retirement from MMA in 2013. He has a significant presence in UFC, WEC, Pride, the IFL, and ONE Championship, among other promotions. However, his role has changed over the years as he now manages UFC’s Twitch streaming channel, hosting watch-alongs for pay-per-views, among other activities. In a surprising turn of comparison, Pulver mentioned that his induction felt similar to fighting in the UFC. He described his joy at seeing eager fans before heading to the location of the ceremony, a feeling eerily reminiscent of fight nights. As he savoured every moment, he found himself encapsulated in apprehension and excitement, much like his fighting days.

Pulver’s journey includes a brief departure from UFC in 2002 due to contractual disputes. His varied career also includes coaching opposite B.J. Penn on the fifth season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ The crowning moment, however, came when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside his longtime friend, Robbie Lawler. Pulver describes this moment as ‘destiny’ and is grateful for the communal support he’s received. Looking back, Pulver cherishes the moment: the overwhelming support, his interactions with fans, the recognition of his achievements, and his chance to revel in shared joy. The event has surpassed all his expectations and filled him with a sense of relevancy and joy that he’ll cherish for the rest of his life.
