John Fury acknowledges that his son, Tommy Fury, could have performed better against KSI in their recent influencer boxing match, acknowledging that the fight was not entertaining and that KSI could have potentially won on the judges’ scorecards.
John Fury, father of boxer Tommy Fury, admitted that his son could have performed better against KSI in their recent match. John was in Tommy’s corner during the fight, which headlined Misfits Boxing: The Prime Card in Manchester, England. Despite securing a unanimous decision victory, both Tommy and KSI received criticism for their lackluster performance.
KSI expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision, claiming that he was robbed of the win. Although John didn’t go as far as calling it a robbery, he acknowledged that the scorecards could have gone either way. Speaking to Boxing Social, Fury mentioned that the fight was not enjoyable to watch due to the different fighting styles. He criticized the amount of holding by KSI and the referee’s leniency towards it.
John Fury went on to emphasize that both fighters are still novices in the boxing world, and the pressure on Tommy to perform is immense. He acknowledged that Tommy carries the weight of the world on his back every time he steps into the ring but expressed confidence that with experience, he will improve. Fury also acknowledged that training for opponents like KSI is challenging, as they come from a different background.
The main event between KSI and Tommy Fury was largely uneventful, with significant clinching and little intervention from the referee. Despite receiving a point deduction for illegal punches to the back of the head, Tommy emerged victorious with a majority decision, scoring 57-56, 57-56, and 57-57. With this win, Fury’s professional record improved to 10-0. He hinted at potentially moving on from influencer boxing matches but did not rule out the possibility of a rematch against Jake Paul or a fight with Logan Paul.
