Jose Aldo: Floyd Mayweather Exhibition Ongoing Discussions, Jeremy Stephens as Primary Focus

Jose Aldo is focused on his upcoming boxing match with Jeremy Stephens but remains open to a potential showdown with Floyd Mayweather in Saudi Arabia.

Jose Aldo is still interested in a boxing match against legendary champion Floyd Mayweather later this year, but his main focus is currently on other endeavours. Aldo recently announced that Ali Abdelaziz has joined Andre Pederneiras as his manager in the boxing scene, and discussions about a possible Mayweather showdown in Saudi Arabia are ongoing. However, Aldo is currently preparing for his match against Jeremy Stephens at this Saturday’s Gamebred Boxing 4 event in Milwaukee and is not allowing himself to be distracted by the potential Mayweather fight.

Aldo revealed the initial plan for Gamebred Boxing 4 was supposed to be a fight with Artem Lobov, but it ultimately fell through. As for the possibility of facing former boxing champion Acelino Freitas, Aldo explained that it doesn’t make sense for him at this stage in his career. Freitas has called Aldo out on several occasions, but Aldo has higher ambitions, stating, “We had that plan, and going back to fighting in Brazil makes no sense.” Freitas recently fought in two exhibition matches in Brazil, highlighting the difference in both fighters’ respective paths.

The former UFC and WEC featherweight champion expressed the importance of focusing on his upcoming match against Stephens. He stated, “My next challenge is on Saturday, and I want to put on a great performance because that’s how we’ll continue to fight great athletes in America.” Reflecting on his decision to leave MMA and step into the boxing world, he emphasized that the purse he’s now earning is bigger than what he received in the UFC or other promotions. Aldo also stressed the difference in the upcoming fight against Stephens, saying, “We’re going to box, it’s completely different now.”
