Former two-time featherweight champion Jose Aldo has opened as a sizable betting underdog to UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley for a potential matchup, according to odds released by internet bookmaker BetOnline.
Jose Aldo’s chances of a UFC title shot? Not looking too hot, if we’re being honest.
BetOnline, a popular online betting platform, dropped some odds on Monday. Aldo’s up against UFC bantamweight champ Sean O’Malley, and the numbers aren’t in his favor. The ex-featherweight champ is a +210 underdog. So, if you’re feeling lucky, a $100 bet on Aldo could net you $210. Meanwhile, O’Malley’s sitting pretty as a -250 favorite.
Aldo’s been out of the game for nearly two years. But this past Saturday, he came back with a bang. He took down Jonathan Martinez in UFC 301’s co-main event, right in his home country, Brazil. Clean sweep on the scorecards. Unanimous decision. Now, he’s a free agent in the MMA world, but he’s got his eyes on O’Malley’s bantamweight title if he re-signs with UFC.
Aldo’s comeback? It’s put him back on the map. He’s back in the top tier of MMA Fighting’s global bantamweight ranks. As of Monday’s update, he’s sitting at No. 6. Not too shabby, right?
O’Malley, on the other hand, is 29 and expected to defend his UFC bantamweight title against top contender Merab Dvalishvili this year. He’s a +185 underdog in that potential fight, but he’s an even bigger underdog (+245) in a potential champ vs. champ match against UFC featherweight king Ilia Topuria (-285).
