Kenny Florian Forecasts Possible Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz Fight in PFL

PFL color commentator Kenny Florian speculates that Jake Paul and Nate Diaz could potentially participate in a crossover doubleheader by next year, possibly in a PFL fight, suggesting that this could happen as early as 2024, with both Paul and PFL chairman Donn Davis expressing interest in the idea.

PFL color commentator Kenny Florian is of the opinion that Jake Paul and Nate Diaz could potentially go head-to-head in a crossover doubleheader by the coming year. Paul and Diaz are already set to face off in a boxing match in Dallas, marking Diaz’s first competition since the end of his UFC contract in September. Historically, MMA fighters have switched to boxing, and boxers have hinted at making a return, but such a crossover hasn’t occurred as yet. Florian’s speculation stems from a question concerning whether the upcoming Paul-Diaz match could symbolize a change in this regard, especially as both Paul and PFL chairman Donn Davis have expressed interest in seeing such an event.

Florian expressed his thoughts on this prospect on an episode of Heck of a Morning ahead of a PFL Playoffs event, saying, “I think so, and I think that’s what makes it so intriguing. It’s like [for MMA fighters] you have a one shot at boxing and that’s what I do. That’s what I’ve been focusing on, now coming over to my support, mixed martial arts, we haven’t had that. Now, we can actually have that. I do think it’s feasible.” He went on to suggest that we may witness such an event as soon as 2024, emphasizing the importance of notable names like Diaz and Paul to draw viewership if a pay-per-view were to take place.

Davis, in July, publicly announced a $10 million offer for Diaz to take on Paul in the PFL SmartCage. However, before Diaz considers jumping back into his MMA career, he will have to handle his forthcoming 10-round professional boxing match against Paul. A win for Diaz would be groundbreaking and improve his bargaining power. Commenting on these factors, Florian shared, “I think it’s fascinating for a couple of different reasons. First of all, I think that one of the strongest parts of Nate Diaz’s game has been his boxing, right? I think he’s wanted to box for so long.”

Florian appreciates Paul for his ambition, despite his existing popularity and financial success on YouTube. He’s impressed by Paul’s choice to earn his recognition the more challenging way through professional fighting and his subsequent popularity. For Florian, Diaz is the favorite headed into the match. Recognizing Paul’s knockout power in the early rounds, he also acknowledged Diaz’s legendary motor, superior durability, and high-volume boxing, which tend to shine in the latter part of a fight. He concluded, “I would have Nate Diaz as a favorite, but Jake Paul is going to be tough to take out as well.”
