Despite losing to Alex Pereira at UFC 307, Khalil Rountree Jr. was happy with his performance, feeling fulfilled and motivated by the experience, which earned him respect and recognition and reinforced his determination to improve and become a champion.

Khalil Rountree Jr. faced Alex Pereira at UFC 307, and though he didn’t win, he wasn’t too down about it. Almost pulling off a stunning upset against the light heavyweight champ was no small feat.

Back in October, Rountree gave it his all, pushing Pereira to the brink before being finished in the fourth round. Despite the loss, “The War Horse” felt fulfilled; standing toe-to-toe with Pereira was a dream come true.

“It was surreal,” Rountree shared with Fight Energy Films. He’d always wanted this fight, so when it happened, it was like living in a dream.

Even when the fight ended, Rountree felt nothing but happiness. Being in that octagon felt right—like he truly belonged there.

His performance didn’t just make him happy; it caught the eye of UFC CEO Dana White and fans alike. Though he didn’t clinch the title, Rountree’s showing was star-making.

“The contrast of emotions since then has been huge,” Rountree admitted. Yet, it’s been mostly positive. He’s now focused on improving and chasing that championship dream.

While he’s not a champion yet, Rountree enjoys respect and recognition akin to one. It’s a strange but gratifying position to be in.

Reflecting over several months, he’s pinpointed what needs work. Coming close to victory has bolstered his confidence—he can taste that world champion status.

In his fight against Pereira, caution was key given Pereira’s danger level. However, moving forward, Rountree sees himself unleashing more of his potential.

“I went all out,” he said. But there’s still more to give. His skills and intelligence have room for growth—a realization sparked by this fight.

This experience has been eye-opening for him. It highlighted the gap between where he is and where he wants to be—a wake-up call that ignites his drive to learn and grow.
