Leon Edwards, after losing the UFC welterweight title to Belal Muhammad at UFC 304, is determined to reclaim the championship by next year and become a two-time world champion.
Leon Edwards is on a mission. He wants to reclaim the UFC welterweight title ASAP.
He lost the belt to Belal Muhammad at UFC 304 in July. It was a tough fight for Edwards, with Muhammad dominating. Now, “Rocky” is ready to chase the title again.
“My goal right now is to get the belt back,” Edwards declared on MyProtein’s Instagram. Aiming to be champ by this time next year, he’s laying down plans.
Edwards’ journey to the top was epic. Remember that jaw-dropping head kick against Kamaru Usman at UFC 278? Usman was winning until that final minute in August 2022. Then, Edwards beat Usman again at UFC 286 and outclassed Colby Covington in December at UFC 296 for a unanimous decision.
The defeat by Muhammad marked Edwards’ first loss since his initial bout with Usman at UFC on Fox 17 in December 2015. Losing isn’t something he’s used to.
“I haven’t lost a fight in like nine years,” he reflected. Adjusting to this feeling is tough, but Edwards hates losing more than he loves winning. It’s all about moving forward now, leaving the loss behind.
“For me, it’s more about what’s next and how do you get back to where you want to get to,” he mused. His sights are set on becoming a two-time world champion.
