David Onama needs a new opponent for UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden after Lucas Almeida withdrew from their bout, and the promotion is seeking a replacement on short notice.
David Onama’s got a bit of a problem—he needs a new opponent for UFC 309. Lucas Almeida, who was supposed to face him, is out for reasons no one’s talking about yet, according to folks in the know at MMA Fighting.
UFC 309 is all set for Nov. 16 at Madison Square Garden in NYC. The promotion’s scrambling to find someone to fight the Ugandan featherweight with just over a week to go.
Onama (12-2) is riding high after two big wins. He took down Gabriel Santos with a knockout in Jacksonville, Fla., and beat Jonathan Pearce, though he missed weight for that one.
Almeida (15-3) was eager to step back into the octagon after signing a fresh UFC deal. His last fight was a decision win over Timmy Cuamba in June, bouncing back from losses to Pat Sabatini and Andre Fili.
Catch UFC 309 live on pay-per-view. It’s headlined by Jon Jones defending his heavyweight title against former champ Stipe Miocic. Should be a banger!
