Magomed Ankalaev, after winning the UFC light heavyweight title by defeating Alex Pereira, urged Jon Jones to fight Tom Aspinall instead of Pereira, while UFC CEO Dana White anticipates a unification bout between Jones and Aspinall this year.
Magomed Ankalaev, like many others, has his eyes on the potential clash between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall. This intrigue intensified after Ankalaev’s victory over Alex Pereira at UFC 313, where he clinched the light heavyweight title.
In Las Vegas, Ankalaev secured a unanimous decision, marking his first UFC world title. Meanwhile, Jones, after defending his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, has been vocal about wanting to fight Pereira. This has stirred mixed reactions among fans since Aspinall holds the interim champion status.
Ankalaev took a moment to remind Jones that Pereira is no longer an option. After all, Pereira just lost to him. So, it’s time for Jones to consider other opponents.
On Twitter, Ankalaev didn’t mince words. “Jonny steroid machine was very disappointed,” he tweeted. He urged Jones to fight “big Tom” Aspinall instead of avoiding the matchup.
Dana White, the UFC CEO, remains optimistic about seeing Jones and Aspinall face off this year. The anticipation is palpable.
As for Ankalaev? A rematch with Pereira seems to be on the horizon. Negotiations are reportedly in progress. Stay tuned!
