Marco Tulio, after securing a UFC contract through two challenging Contender Series victories, is set to debut against Ihor Potieria at UFC Vegas 101, confident in his well-rounded skills and gameplan to neutralize his opponent’s weaknesses.
Marco Tulio faced “the world’s most difficult job interview” not once, but twice to secure his UFC contract. Now, he’s laser-focused on showcasing his skills in the octagon.
The Chute Boxe Diego Lima middleweight is set to make his debut against Ihor Potieria at UFC Vegas 101. After clinching victories in the Contender Series against Yousri Belgaroui and Matthieu Duclos, Tulio feels a surge of confidence. Performing under the watchful eyes of UFC CEO Dana White and company matchmakers? No small feat.
“I’ve fought guys with names before,” Tulio shared with MMA Fighting, mentioning ex-UFC fighter Glaico Franca and the hyped Yousri. “Hype doesn’t faze me. It’s about fight IQ and skills in there.” He’s seen many hyped fighters fall short when it counts.
Tulio’s on an eight-fight winning streak since 2021, with five knockouts. Meanwhile, Potieria aims to bounce back after four losses in his last five bouts. Notably, he retired legend Mauricio Rua with a first-round KO in 2023.
“It’s a perfect matchup,” Tulio remarked. “Potieria has a name and a career inside the UFC. He’s faced Brazilians before, something I’m keen to explore.” Potieria’s post-victory dance over ‘Shogun’ Rua still fresh in memory, Tulio respects him but remains unfazed.
Since defeating Rua, Potieria has battled three other Brazilians but fell short against Rodolfo Bellato, Michel Pereira, and Cesar Almeida. Tulio acknowledges Potieria’s skill yet asserts he has the strategy to “neutralize him” and claim victory.
“I see gaps in his game—standing and on the ground,” Tulio noted. “I’m an MMA fighter with striking roots, but my wrestling and jiu-jitsu are sharpening daily.” He’s evolving into a well-rounded fighter. Confidently, he adds, “My standup will make all the difference.”
