The biopic “The Smashing Machine,” directed by Benny Safdie and starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as former fighter Mark Kerr, is set to release in theaters on October 3, competing with films “Roofman” and “The Keeper.”
Finally, the much-anticipated Mark Kerr biopic, The Smashing Machine, has a release date.
Starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the troubled former UFC and PRIDE fighter, the film is set to hit theaters on Oct. 3. Deadline was the first to break this exciting news.
Benny Safdie, celebrated for his work on films like Uncut Gems, directed and co-wrote this film. It also features Academy Award nominee Emily Blunt as Kerr’s wife, Dawn Staples.
On Oct. 3, The Smashing Machine will face competition from Channing Tatum’s Roofman and Oz Perkins’ horror flick The Keeper. Quite the cinematic showdown!
Inspired by a documentary of the same name, this film chronicles Kerr’s journey from being one of the top fighters globally to battling addiction later in his career.
Ryan Bader, a former Bellator heavyweight champ, portrays UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman, who was also Kerr’s friend.
The cast boasts heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk as Russian fighter Igor Vovchanchyn, Satoshi Ishii playing Enson Inoue, and James Moontasri as Akira Shoji. Andre Tricoteux takes on Paul Varelans, while Bas Rutten plays himself after having a significant role in the original documentary about Kerr.
