UFC fighter Marlon Vera aims to prove his worth and rebound from a previous loss, as he faces Henry Cejudo in an upcoming main card match in UFC 292, looking to put on an excellent performance and send a strong message to the rest of the bantamweight division.
Marlon Vera is set to battle it out against Henry Cejudo in a main card event at UFC 292, as announced by the UFC earlier this month. The fight comes on the backdrop of a unanimous decision loss Vera suffered against Cory Sandhagen in March. This fight represents more than just a chance to get back on the winning track for ‘Chito’; it’s also an opportunity for him to make a strong point.
Vera acknowledged his prior disappointing performance against Sandhagen, vowing to use Cejudo as a means to convey a powerful message to the rest of the bantamweight division. On the “Believe You Me” podcast, he stated, “This is a perfect fight to make a statement…It’s a perfect fight to let them know, hey dude, yes, I slipped but I get up right away. I know deep down inside he’s still a little bit of a c***. I’m gonna show that… I’m gonna fight like my life depends on it”.
Cejudo is also attempting to recuperate from a previous loss against champion Aljamain Sterling at UFC 288, marking his first match in three years. Being currently No.6 in the UFC’s bantamweight rankings, this match against Vera, who is one of the more popular fighters in the UFC, presents Cejudo an opportunity to climb up the ladder. However, Vera warns the former Olympic gold medalist that the matchup isn’t going to be a cakewalk.
Vera explains how Cejudo’s established prowess in the clinch may not be as prominent in mixed martial arts, where a punch can level the playing field. He further asserts that he intends to give Cejudo a gruelling fight, proclaiming, “He’s really ballsy, and I feel like him getting really ballsy is going to get in trouble with a guy like me… I’m not going to be really worried about ‘Oh, I’m going to get taken down.’ I’m going to f****** fight you, son, anywhere.” UFC 292 is scheduled to take place on Aug. 19 at TD Gardens in Boston.
