Matt Brown: McGregor’s Return Unlikely After Fight Pass

Conor McGregor, having stepped away from UFC fighting nearly four years ago, suggests his fighting career might be over as he focuses on a potential presidential run in Ireland and his role as a co-owner in BKFC, with UFC legend Matt Brown noting that McGregor’s recent actions align with his long-stated plan to leave the sport after achieving success.

Conor McGregor hasn’t fought in the UFC for nearly four years, and his recent remarks suggest he might be stepping away for good. At a BKFC event in Florida, McGregor mentioned he passed on a comeback fight, choosing instead to focus on a presidential bid in Ireland. "I’m happy with what I’ve done," he said, sounding more like a farewell than a tease of an impending return.

UFC legend Matt Brown recalls that McGregor hinted at this path years ago. On The Fighter vs. The Writer, Brown reminisced, "He told us like 10 years ago what he was going to do." McGregor’s plan? Dominate the scene, make money, and then exit—something he’s seemingly accomplished.

Brown previously speculated that McGregor might never fight again, though the allure of the spotlight is hard to resist. Yet now, between politics and a co-ownership role in BKFC, McGregor has found new avenues to stay relevant without entering the octagon.

"This isn’t surprising," Brown commented. "He’s just finally admitting it. He loves being in the news." Indeed, McGregor’s knack for media manipulation keeps him in conversations everywhere.

As for his political aspirations, many doubt McGregor’s chances of winning an election in Ireland. But remember: similar doubts were cast about Donald Trump’s presidential run. Unlike the U.S., Ireland’s presidency is largely ceremonial. Brown thinks McGregor’s charisma could shine in such a role but acknowledges past controversies could hinder his political ambitions.

Outside politics, McGregor thrives as a BKFC promoter. Brown praises his enthusiasm: "He’s got the mouthpiece for it." Whether building BKFC or running for office, McGregor remains busy beyond fighting.

Brown hopes McGregor finds happiness in whatever path he chooses. "I hope he does great things," Brown said. Reflecting on McGregor’s career, Brown feels confident: "He’s not coming back." It seems "The Notorious" has already scripted his next chapter.
