The GFL has expanded its ambitious roster for its inaugural season by signing notable fighters such as Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Yoel Romero, announced the host cities and coaches, and scheduled its first draft for January 24, with the season expected to launch in April, possibly in Brazil.
The GFL, gearing up for its inaugural season, already boasted an impressive roster. Now, they’ve upped the ante by signing more fighters and revealing host cities and coaches. Exciting times ahead!
Among the new additions is UFC Hall of Famer Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Though he retired in 2023 after a string of losses, Rua remains a legend, once reigning as UFC light heavyweight champ.
And then there’s Yoel Romero. Somehow ageless, he recently delivered a jaw-dropping knockout at Dirty Boxing, a hybrid fight promotion from BKFC star Mike Perry. Seriously, this guy’s a marvel.
Thursday’s announcements didn’t stop there. Chad Mendes, Renan Barao, Douglas Lima, Ovince Saint Preux, and Todd Duffee are also joining the GFL ranks. Quite the lineup!
Mark your calendars: The first-ever GFL draft is set for next Friday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. ET. They’re planning to broadcast it, but no word yet on where to catch the action. Stay tuned!
