Max Holloway won the UFC’s “BMF” title at UFC 300 by knocking out Justin Gaethje, but revealed in a recent gaming stream that he sustained a badly bruised leg from over 30 leg kicks during the fight.
Max Holloway, the “BMF” titleholder, didn’t exactly come out of the ring unscathed.
At UFC 300, he was the third to grab the UFC’s symbolic “BMF” belt. How? By knocking Justin Gaethje out cold in the final second of their title fight.
This knockout? Yeah, it’s already being hailed as one of UFC’s most iconic moments. It’s like Holloway’s name is now etched in the annals of UFC history. But, boy, did it come with a cost.
During a gaming stream on Kick, Holloway got real with his fans. One of them asked about his leg, which had taken over 30 kicks from Gaethje, one of MMA’s hardest kickers. Holloway’s response? He showed off a badly bruised leg. But he was quick to add, “It’s improving.”
“He whooped my ass, dog,” Holloway admitted. He then rolled up his leg wrap, revealing the extent of the bruising. “My calf, it’s way better. Way better. My leg is way better, it’s bruised though.”
Crazy, right? Holloway compared Gaethje’s kicks to being hit by a Mack truck. Twice. “That guy kicks hard as s***. No lie.”
But Holloway’s a tough cookie. He withstood Gaethje’s vicious leg kicks, even managing to hurt Gaethje several times during the fight. And then, in the final 10 seconds, he called Gaethje to stand and brawl. The result? That now-iconic knockout.
