Maycee Barber Seeks Alexa Grasso Rematch Following Exciting UFC Jacksonville Victory

Maycee Barber is eager for a rematch with Alexa Grasso following her standout knockout win against Amanda Ribas at UFC Jacksonville.

Maycee Barber has her sights set on her next opponent following a spectacular victory over Amanda Ribas at UFC Jacksonville, which marked the most impressive win of her young career. Barber has been vocal about her desire for a rematch with Alexa Grasso, regardless of Grasso’s upcoming bout against Valentina Shevchenko. “I’ve been saying it time and time again, whether Alexa [Grasso] wins against Valentina [Shevchenko] or not, I do want that rematch,” Barber shared during UFC Jacksonville’s post-fight press conference. She also mentioned her intentions to discuss the decision with Hunter Campbell, Mick Maynard, and the team to make it a reality.

On Saturday, Barber delivered an outstanding performance during the co-main event, taking Ribas down with a powerful second-round head kick and a flurry of punches. This feat earned Barber an additional $50,000 in bonus money, extended her winning streak to five, and placed her second all-time for most knockouts in the UFC women’s flyweight division’s history. The fight also ended a series of six consecutive decision bouts for Barber and marked her first stoppage win since October 2019.

The 25-year-old athlete is now 8-2 under the UFC banner, with losses only against Roxanne Modafferi due to a torn ACL in 2020, and a decision defeat to Alexa Grasso in 2021, who now holds the UFC woman’s flyweight champion title. Grasso claimed the title this past March, submitting former champion Valentina Shevchenko with a fourth-round face crank. Their rematch is set to take place on September 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but Barber believes the matchup could go either way. “It’s a toss-up,” Barber said. “Alexa is an incredible fighter. Valentina was a dominant champion for so long for a reason. So honestly, it’s something where it’s hard to give a prediction because anything can happen.”
