After her UFC 299 win, Maycee Barber was hospitalized for nine days due to a severe infection and pneumonia, casting uncertainty on her future in the sport.
Maycee Barber’s UFC 299 win didn’t give her much time to party. Hospital trips and a nasty infection cut her celebration short. And then, pneumonia joined the party.
She spilled the beans on Instagram. Talked about a fever from the infection and the doctors’ head-scratching. The 25-year-old flyweight prospect had some scary moments. Lying in the hospital bed, one day blurred into the next.
Her post-fight story? Nine days in the hospital. Tests and treatments for an infection that seemed like a cocktail of Strep A and Staph. “Being in the hospital, battling a 105-degree fever, low blood pressure, HR, and oxygen… it was tough,” Barber shared.
Despite a barrage of IV antibiotics and meds, the fever didn’t budge. That’s when pneumonia decided to crash the party. “It was scary. There were moments I wasn’t sure if I’d be okay. But, life’s a puzzle, right? This is just another piece,” she philosophized.
According to her post, she landed in the hospital on March 12. That’s just three days after her victory over Katlyn Cerminara in Miami.
Seems like she’s still wrestling with the illness. But, she dropped a hint that she’s out of the hospital now.
Her recent performance was a game-changer. She knocked out former title challenger Cerminara. That’s her sixth win in a row.
This win pushed Barber closer to the title. But, this health hiccup might bench her for a bit. Only time will tell.
