Top flyweights Maycee Barber and Rose Namajunas are set to headline the UFC Fight Night event in Denver on July 13.
Denver’s calling! Two of the world’s top flyweights are set to rumble in the Mile High City.
Maycee Barber and Rose Namajunas, two formidable women in the 125-pound category, are in the pipeline to headline the UFC Fight Night. The big event? It’s slated for July 13, smack in the middle of summer.
The scoop first came from Ariel Helwani, MMA Fighting’s own. He dropped the news on Monday, and the fans have been buzzing ever since.
Barber’s no stranger to the ring. With a 14-2 record, she’s ranked sixth in the world among flyweights by MMA Fighting. This 25-year-old Colorado native is on a roll, riding high on a six-fight win streak. She’s on the cusp of a title shot, having notched victories against Miranda Maverick, Jessica Eye, Andrea Lee, Amanda Ribas, and Katlyn Cerminara.
Namajunas, on the other hand, is ranked 11th. She’s a seasoned fighter, having recently snapped a two-fight losing streak with a five-round decision over Ribas.
Remember “Thug Rose”? Yeah, that’s her. A two-time former UFC strawweight champion and one of the most decorated women in the promotion. Her impressive resume includes wins over Zhang Weili (twice!), Joanna Jedrzejczyk (also twice!), and Jessica Andrade. Namajunas, now 31, has a 1-1 record since moving up to the flyweight division. Her debut? A loss against Manon Fiorot.
But wait, there’s more! The July 13 card also features Viviane Araujo vs. Jasmine Jasudavicius, Gabriel Bonfim vs. Ange Loosa, and Mike Malott vs. Gilbert Urbina.
The venue? Well, that’s still under wraps.
Oh, and there’s a poll going on. Who’s gonna win, you ask? As of now, 38% are backing Barber (191 votes), while 61% are rooting for Namajunas (305 votes). So, who’s your money on? Don’t forget to cast your vote!
