Mayra Bueno Silva avoided severe penalties after her emotional outburst following a loss at UFC 303, with her $2,500 fine and an additional $157 in prosecution fees resolving the matter, amidst a turbulent period that included a suspension for a failed drug test and a string of defeats.
Mayra Bueno Silva dodged a severe penalty after the emotional fallout from her latest bout.
At UFC 303 in Las Vegas this past June, Silva faced Macy Chiasson. In Round 2, a nasty cut over her right eye forced her to stop. Silva, clearly frustrated, jumped up and climbed the cage wall, leaving the octagon. This action prompted a formal complaint from Nevada Athletic Commission executive director Jeff Mullen.
Initially, $2,500 of Silva’s $100,000 fight purse was withheld for review. At a NAC meeting on Thursday, it was decided that this amount would be her fine. The matter was resolved with no further punishment besides an additional $157 in prosecution fees.
Silva’s been making headlines since February 2023. She defeated former bantamweight champion Holly Holm but saw that win overturned due to testing positive for Ritalinic acid, a banned substance. Silva claimed the failed test resulted from medication for her ADHD. She received a four-and-a-half-month suspension for this infraction.
She later lost a unanimous decision to Raquel Pennington at UFC 297, where the vacant bantamweight title was on the line. Now, after losing to Chiasson, she’s officially winless in her last three fights.
