Mayra Bueno Silva Suspended: Holly Holm’s Victory Ruled a No-Contest

Mayra Bueno Silva‘s victory over Holly Holm has been overturned into a no-contest by the Nevada Athletic Commission due to Bueno Silva testing positive for an ADHD medication in a pre-fight drug test, resulting in a 4.5-month suspension, a fine, and additional drug testing for her next bout.

Mayra Bueno Silva’s victory over Holly Holm at UFC Vegas 77 has been nullified after the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) unanimously voted to overturn the result. Bueno Silva had defeated Holm via submission with a ninja choke in the second round, but she subsequently tested positive for ritalinic acid in a pre-fight drug test. Ritalinic acid is a metabolite of Ritalin, an ADHD medication that Bueno Silva claimed she had been taking for the past three years. She stated that she had stopped taking the medication on the Monday of fight week, as she had done in previous bouts, and was unsure why the test came back positive.

As a result of the NAC’s decision, Bueno Silva has been handed a 4.5-month suspension that will end on November 29. She has also been fined 15 percent of her purse, amounting to $11,250. In addition, she will be required to pay prosecution fees totaling $314.08 and undergo supplemental drug testing leading up to her next fight, with tests scheduled 30, 15, and three days before the bout. These penalties mark a setback for Bueno Silva, who had established herself as the top-ranked women’s bantamweight fighter at MMA Fighting.

Bueno Silva’s professional record now faces an adjustment following the NAC’s decision. Prior to the no-contest ruling, she had held an undefeated 4-0 record in the UFC since returning to the bantamweight division in 2022. However, with the victory over Holm now overturned, Bueno Silva will need to rebuild her momentum and resume her ascent within the rankings when she returns to the octagon.
