Michael Bisping shared a humorous incident involving Ciryl Gane on the set of “Den of Thieves 2,” where Gane, unaware of a strict weapons protocol, jokingly mishandled a gun, much to the frustration of the weapons trainer.
According to Michael Bisping, Ciryl Gane had quite the adventure on the Den of Thieves 2 set. Not everyone shared his enthusiasm, though. Bisping and Gane both star in this sequel, which hits theaters on Friday. While Bisping reprises his role as Connor, Gane makes his debut as Pape.
During filming, Bisping found himself in a hilarious situation involving Gane. "We had to do some weapons training," Bisping told MMA Fighting. The guy running it was super serious—rightly so, given they were handling real weapons. He treated us like soldiers, barking orders to ensure everything looked authentic on film. "If I ever see anyone messing around with these guns," he yelled, "you’re off this set!"
Gane missed that stern lecture because his flight got delayed. When he finally arrived halfway through the session, he hadn’t heard the warning about gun safety. The trainer asked him if he’d ever held a gun before. In his French accent, Gane replied, "Yes, but of course." Then he grabbed a gun and started playing spy games, complete with sound effects and forward rolls. The trainer was livid, smoke practically coming out of his ears!
Bisping couldn’t stop laughing; after all, they’d been scolded for ages before Gane’s antics lightened the mood. Besides Gane, Rico Verhoeven also appears in the movie—Bisping got to know him better during filming and found him to be an awesome guy.
Den of Thieves 2 stars Gerard Butler as "Big Nick" O’Brien, still chasing down criminal Donnie Wilson, played by O’Shea Jackson. The first film has quite the following, and now, seven years later, fans eagerly await the sequel.
In the original film, Bisping had more of a cameo role. This time around, he dives deeper into his character. "Connor," he chuckles at the name similarity with Conor McGregor—what a coincidence! Connor’s a London tough guy who doesn’t exactly stick to the law but works security at a diamond place.
The story is based on a true event. While shooting in Tenerife, they met with police and investigators who handled the actual robbery depicted in the film. They wanted everything as realistic as possible—meticulously done.
"I was only in a few scenes," Bisping admits. He’s just as eager as anyone else to see how it all turned out!
