Mike Davis, a promising UFC lightweight fighter, has suffered a severe bicep injury requiring surgery, forcing him to withdraw from his upcoming fight and expressing deep frustration and disappointment over his ongoing streak of bad luck and career setbacks.
Mike Davis’ run of bad luck continues.
One of the UFC’s most promising lightweight talents, Davis announced Tuesday that he suffered a bicep injury in training that will require surgery. Davis was reportedly set to fight Drew Dober at UFC Denver on July 13, but he has now been forced to withdraw from that opportunity.
A heartbroken Davis posted a video of the injury, which can be seen below.
“You can literally hear it snap,” Davis wrote. “I’m so disappointed.”
This is just the latest instance of misfortune for the 31-year-old Davis, who has fought just five times since joining the UFC in 2019. After a debut loss to Gilbert Burns, Davis rattled off four straight wins, including a Fight of the Year contender against Mason Jones in January 2021 and a submission of Natan Levy in his most recent fight this past March. Despite his success, injuries have slowed Davis’ career momentum considerably.
Davis elaborated on how devastated he is feeling following his latest setback in an Instagram caption:
This kills me man….
Completely tore my bicep during my sparring rounds on Tuesday. June 11th. Resulting in 3.5in retraction in my bicep.
Yes, I need surgery. They have to reattach the tendon by drilling it back into the bone.
I’m so f*cking disappointed…I try so f*cking hard… I’m dealt such a shit hand in life full of skill and talent that I cant even use..
I trained so f*cking hard for this.
Running sprints at the track every week in 100°, Training twice a day, which I NEVER do,
Doing extra drills and pad work, Running 3 miles before every.single. session, every. f*cking. day.
I even prepped my last 3 weeks of camp to be in Colorado so I could adapt.
So much time, effort and money…for nothing.
You have no idea how much this kills my f*cking soul.
All I know is that I can’t give up…I’m the only one left in my life that’s even remotely capable.
….. I want to give up so bad
Maybe I should do an online programming degree while I’m sitting with the surgery. I just don’t know anymore
I’m breaking
There is no timetable yet for the fighter’s return to action.
