MMA fighter Mike Perry has been engaging in a social media exchange with Dillon Danis, fueling rumors of a potential fight, though Perry notes that the type of match would need to be agreed upon as Danis is unlikely to participate in a bare-knuckle brawl.
Mike Perry’s hunting for his next opponent. Dillon Danis, the ever-vocal grappler, is a name that’s been tossed around.
Danis, a two-time Bellator vet, didn’t exactly shine in his boxing match against Logan Paul last December. He got disqualified. But that hasn’t stopped him from trading barbs with Perry on social media. Some folks are whispering this could lead to a showdown. Perry talked about the potential Danis fight on The MMA Hour. They’ve been messaging each other for weeks.
“Me and Dillon Danis been talking a little shit,” Perry admitted. He doesn’t think it’s a big deal. They’ve both posted a few things. Some jokes, some old news. Perry’s not bothered. He’s been through worse. The media’s had its fun at his expense too.
Before Perry found success in BKFC and became the face of the sport, he was in the news for all the wrong reasons. A violent restaurant brawl in Texas. Domestic violence allegations from his ex-wife. But Perry’s a different man now. He’s a family man, a husband, a father. He knew Danis would bring up his past to bait him into a fight.
Things haven’t spiraled out of control. Yet. That’s probably good for Danis. He’s already dealing with a lawsuit from Logan Paul’s fiancée, Nina Agdal. She’s suing him for online harassment. She claims Danis hacked her social media.
“Dillon and I, we’ve been cracking jokes,” Perry said. They don’t have beef, but Perry thinks a fight with Danis could be fun. If it happens. Perry’s heard rumors that Danis might back out. But Danis hasn’t crossed any lines. He’s just bringing up old news. Perry can live with that.
Perry thinks he can get a few laughs at Danis’s expense. “All you’ve got to do is Google someone’s name and you’ve got a bunch of funny memes right there.”
Perry’s open to a fight with Danis. They’d have to agree on the rules, though. Danis is known for being Conor McGregor‘s grappling coach. He’s had a couple of MMA fights in Bellator. He recently returned to the ring for a boxing match with Paul after a four-year hiatus.
Perry’s got a long MMA history, including 15 UFC fights. He’s willing to go back to MMA to fight Danis. A bare-knuckle brawl is off the table. “Not a chance he’ll fight me in bare-knuckle,” Perry said. “He thinks that’s not a real fight.”
Perry would love to beat Danis at his own game. But he wants more than just a grappling match. He wants punches, strikes. An MMA fight could work. It all depends on the details. Perry’s heard plenty of people say they won’t fight him in bare-knuckle. He’s open to other options.
Perry’s had other offers. A boxing match with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on the undercard of the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson event in July. But the money wasn’t right, so Perry passed.
BKFC is still Perry’s main focus. But he’s open to other opportunities. He’s hoping to fight again soon. His last fight was a 60-second knockout of UFC vet and former BKFC champ Thiago Alves on April 27.
“We’re trying to get those things locked in and see what’s going to happen in the next month or two,” Perry said. He’s ready to get back in the ring and put on a show. He might fight under his preferred rules. Or someone else’s. He’s flexible.
“Some people seem to forget I know how to fight,” Perry said. He’s confident he can win, no matter the rules. He’s got a great team behind him. They’re all focused on the same goal.
