Molly McCann and Diana Belbita are scheduled to rematch in a strawweight bout at a UFC APEX event on February 3, following McCann’s unanimous decision victory in their flyweight encounter in October 2019.
Get ready for a rematch! Molly McCann and Diana Belbita are gearing up to face off in the octagon once more.
The news broke on Wednesday. The UFC announced that McCann and Belbita are slated for a strawweight bout at an upcoming UFC APEX event on Feb. 3. It’s a do-over of their flyweight clash back in October 2019, which McCann clinched with a unanimous decision.
Rewind to four years ago. McCann (13-6) rained on Belbita’s UFC debut parade with a rare scorecard. McCann swept the board with 30-25 scores. Belbita got slapped with a point penalty for a fence grab in the second round. McCann seized the moment, dominating the round to a 10-7 score.
Post that bout, McCann’s record stands at 3-4. She enjoyed a three-fight winning streak, punctuated by back-to-back knockouts of Hannah Goldy and Luana Carolina. Quite the highlight reel, huh?
But then, a twist. Consecutive losses in McCann’s last two fights nudged “Meatball” to drop down to the 115-pound division.
Enter Belbita (15-8). She’s coming off a decision loss to Karolina Kowalkiewicz. The Romanian fighter, now based in Canada, made her own strawweight switch in 2021. Since then, she’s 2-2, with decision victories over Maria Oliveira and Goldy.
And the main event? The Feb. 3 UFC APEX event is set to be headlined by a middleweight bout. Roman Dolidze and Nassourdine Imavov will be the ones to watch.
