Top-ranked flyweight Muhammad Mokaev has signed with Karate Combat and will make his debut on May 2 in Dubai, transitioning from a successful UFC career to focus on enhancing his striking skills while maintaining wrestling as a backup plan.
Muhammad Mokaev, a top-ranked flyweight, is gearing up for his next bout. But this time, it’s not in the usual cage—it’s in the Karate Combat pit. Exciting twist, right?
An official from the promotion spilled the beans to MMA Fighting. Mokaev’s signed with Karate Combat! He dropped this bombshell on Twitter first. Mark your calendars: May 2 in Dubai. That’s when he’ll step into the spotlight for his debut.
Mokaev tweeted, “May 2nd, Dubai @KarateCombat.” Short and sweet. Then he got a bit nostalgic. “My first ever sport was karate,” he reminisced. From there, he transitioned to wrestling. But now? He just wants to compete, stay active, and sharpen those striking skills.
“I’m always gonna have plan B—wrestling,” he confessed. But he’s laser-focused on plan A now. Who doesn’t love a good backup plan?
His UFC days saw him undefeated at 7-0. His last fight there? A decision win over Manel Kape at UFC 304 in July. Yet, surprisingly, no new contract came his way after that.
Recently, Mokaev showcased his prowess at Brave CF 91 last December. He snagged a first-round submission victory against Joevincent So. Quite the resume!
As for what’s next? Only time will tell if this new chapter in Karate Combat will add more wins to his already impressive record. Stay tuned!
