Influencers NichLMAO, Swarmz, B Dave, and Ryan Johnston participated in a new kind of combat called Survivor Tag boxing, with NichLMAO emerging as the winner, though many believe the format still needs adjustments for scoring, time, and overall rules.
During the main event of Misfits 8, Misfits Boxing presented a first of its kind – Survivor Tag boxing, which pitted influencers, NichLMAO, Swarmz, B Dave, and Ryan Johnston against each other. Billed as an interesting twist on influencer combat, Survivor Tag seems to be a blend of tag team boxing and king of the hill. Its distinct rule maintains that at any given time only two boxers can be in the ring, who can tag out whenever they wish. However, only one boxer can emerge as a winner at the end. Any boxer knocked down is instantly eliminated, as is an athlete who refuses to tag out. However, if there are no knockdowns or refusals, the final results are left to the judges.
Initially, Johnston and Swarmz started the boxing match, and even though the first minute ended without any significant punches, both boxers tagged out. B Dave and NichLMAO joined in next and made some solid swings but soon tagged Johnston and NichLMAO in respectively, who quickly tagged themselves out. Throughout the first round, the athletes regularly switched spots without any one causing any major harm to another. In the second round, NichLMAO and B Dave were proactive in the ring, with the former landing impactful hits that led B Dave to tag out. Swarmz and Johnston had their turn but without much success. NichLMAO, having done the most in the ring over two rounds, decided to stay in, battling B Dave briefly before scrapping with Johnston later.
The third round saw Swarmz and Johnston in the ring, but after Swarmz landed a solid hit, they tagged out to make way for B Dave and NichLMAO. B Dave managed to open a cut on NichLMAO, but the round was generally characterised by frequent tags that resulted in a chaotic scene. It was only towards the end that Swarmz effectively separated himself from the rest by landing quality hits on B Dave and NichLMAO. Round four started off with NichLMAO and B Dave, who offered the most entertainment by their brawling. There was a flurry of tags, with NichLMAO landing big hits each time he was in, particularly dealing a devastating blow to Johnston before the final bell.
In the end, the judges awarded the win to NichLMAO due to his strong punches, earning him a verdict win over the other influencers with a total of 117 points. Post-absurd event, even the commenting team admitted that there were several kinks to iron out with the Survivor Tag format. They suggested potential adjustments to the scoring system, the match duration, and the core rules for the next time Misfits decides to host such an event. It implies that this won’t be the last we see of this format.
