After his upcoming fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 314, Paddy Pimblett is eager to potentially face Dustin Poirier next, especially if Poirier is looking for an opponent for his retirement fight.
After his bout with Michael Chandler at UFC 314, Paddy Pimblett’s eyes are set on Dustin Poirier. He’s more than ready for that challenge.
Pimblett is gearing up to face Chandler in a thrilling five-round co-main event on April 12 in Miami. A victory here? It’d be the pinnacle of his career. Should Poirier need a partner for his farewell fight later this year, Pimblett would jump at the chance — though he wonders why Poirier, the former interim lightweight champ, is even considering hanging up his gloves.
“He mentioned me recently, didn’t he? Said it’s ‘legends only’ and reckons Chandler will take me down,” Pimblett shared with ESPN. “Honestly, I think he should stick around for more fights; he looked sharp last time. Retiring when you’re on top? Baffling. But maybe he’s just daft.”
“Anyway, I believe I can beat Dustin Poirier, so bring it on,” Pimblett added.
Undefeated in the UFC, Pimblett recently secured a swift submission win against King Green at UFC 304 back in July. His momentum is undeniable.
In today’s dynamic lightweight division, defeating Chandler could unlock numerous opportunities for Pimblett. He knows it too. A title shot against Islam Makhachev might be closer than anyone anticipates if he triumphs over Chandler at UFC 314.
“Can’t wait to beat him and claim his ranking,” Pimblett said confidently. “I reckon I’m just one victory away from a title shot. Beat Charles [Oliveira] or Poirier, and I’ll be fighting for that belt.”
