Bellator featherweight champion Patricio Pitbull will defend his title against Jeremy Kennedy at the upcoming show in Belfast, Ireland, on March 22, after having two bouts cancelled on the PFL vs. Bellator card this past weekend.
Patricio Pitbull ain’t just sitting around. The Bellator featherweight champ’s been busy, even after two of his fights got canned on the PFL vs. Bellator card last weekend.
Now, he’s all set to defend his title. Jeremy Kennedy’s the lucky guy who’ll face him in the ring. This showdown’s gonna happen at the upcoming event in Belfast, Ireland, on March 22. That’s the word from the company, announced just this Thursday.
The main event at Bellator Belfast? Corey Anderson vs. Karl Moore. They’re vying for the vacant light heavyweight title at the SSE Arena.
Pitbull’s record stands at 35-7. He was supposed to fight 2023 PFL champ Jesus Pinedo in Saudi Arabia. But then, he agreed to take on PFL runner-up Gabriel Braga on a week’s notice after Pinedo backed out. But guess what? Braga pulled out just hours before the weigh-ins.
It’s been a while since Pitbull defended his title. Last time was back in October 2022. Since then, he’s had a 1-2 run. He did manage to defeat then-RIZIN champ Kleber Koike in a non-title bout in Japan. But then he suffered back-to-back losses to Sergio Pettis and Chihiro Suzuki at RIZIN last July.
Kennedy, on the other hand, has a record of 19-3, 1 NC. He was originally supposed to fight James Gallagher at the Belfast event. But now, he’s been bumped up to a championship contest. Gallagher’s still on the card, though. He’ll be fighting Leandro Higo, who was supposed to fight Gallagher in March 2023.
Kennedy’s a Canadian talent who’s won his last three fights in Bellator against Emmanuel Sanchez, Aaron Pico, and Pedro Carvalho. He had a 3-1 run in the UFC between 2016 and 2018. But then he parted ways with the company after losing to Alexander Volkanovski.
