The UFC plans for UFC 256 has been set. Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole interviewed UFC President Dana White yesterday and asked Yan will defend his championship against Aljamain Sterling this year. White confirmed that Yan will fight Sterling in the co-main event of UFC 256 on December 12th at the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event will be UFC featherweight Amanda Nunes defending her championship against former Invicta FC featherweight champion Megan Anderson.
Yan will defend his championship for the first time at UFC 256. He is going into the fight against Sterling with a lot of momentum. Yan is on a ten fight win streak. His last win was for the vacant UFC bantamweight championship defeating former UFC featherweight José Aldo by TKO at UFC 251 on July 12th. A win over Sterling continues Yan reign as the best bantamweight in the UFC.
Sterling has been making his case to be the number one contender for awhile. He is on a five-fight win streak and has looked more impressive in each fight. His last win was against Cory Sandhagen by submission via rear-naked choke at UFC 250 on June 6th. Sterling has been vocal on social media about wanting to fight Yan throughout this year. Now Sterling will have his chance to defeat his rival and become a champion.
