Pettis vs. Henderson: Epic Trilogy Takes Center Stage at Karate Combat 43

Former UFC champions Anthony Pettis and Benson Henderson have agreed to headline Karate Combat 43, a 170-pound match under Karate Combat rules, with Pettis returning to his traditional martial arts roots and both fighters showcasing their expertise in MMA.

The highly anticipated trilogy between Anthony Pettis and Benson Henderson is set to happen once again, but this time under the rules of Karate Combat. Both former UFC champions have verbally agreed to headline Karate Combat 43 on December 15th at the Expo at World Trade Market in Las Vegas. The match, taking place in the 170-pound division, promises to be an exciting showdown between two skilled fighters.

Pettis, a black belt in taekwondo, holds victories over Henderson in their previous encounters throughout his successful MMA career. Though he had a rough stint under the PFL banner, Pettis redeemed himself with a majority decision win over Roy Jones Jr. in a boxing match earlier this year. Showcasing his striking expertise, he claimed wins against notable fighters like Charles Oliveira, Donald Cerrone, and Michael Chiesa during his time in the UFC.

Henderson, on the other hand, is also a former UFC and WEC lightweight champion and shares a black belt in taekwondo with his opponent. His impressive MMA record contains 30 wins out of 42 fights, including victories over Jorge Masvidal, Nate Diaz, Frankie Edgar, and Cerrone. After his most recent appearance in a title challenge against the Bellator lightweight champion, Henderson decided to retire from MMA.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming fight, Pettis stated, “I am excited to announce my next endeavor with the Karate Combat family. I am returning to my traditional martial arts roots for this one. I want to help grow this sport and I can’t wait to put on a show for this organization. It’s Showtime!”

Additionally, Karate Combat officials revealed that negotiations are underway with other former UFC champions, such as Jose Aldo, Luke Rockhold, and Lyoto Machida, for potential matches. The event will also feature Chinzo Machida, brother of Lyoto Machida, facing off against Shannon Hudson. With a duration of three rounds, the 170-pound match may extend to an extra round if it ends in a split decision or draw.

As the new president of Karate Combat, Asim Zaidi aims to captivate the combat sports community by streaming this epic fight featuring two former UFC champions for free on YouTube. The promotion is determined to grow the sport and provide thrilling matchups that fans around the world can enjoy.
