The PFL 2 main event was changed for the third time as Josh Rettinghouse was not cleared to fight, leading to Marcirley Alves replacing him to face Leandro Higo, while all other fighters made weight without incident for the event.
The PFL 2 main event has seen yet another shake-up. Again.
Josh Rettinghouse, a late replacement, was not cleared to fight against Leandro Higo. So, Marcirley Alves steps in as his replacement. Funny how he was initially just an alternate on the card. Oh, the irony!
The announcement came from PFL officials during Thursday’s weigh-ins. Just a day before the big event. Talk about last-minute changes.
Originally, ex-UFC fighter Taila Santos was set to headline against Julianna Velasquez. But then, poof! Santos was off the card too.
Higo vs. Rettinghouse got bumped to the main event spot after that. And now? Rettinghouse is out as well.
So now, it’s Higo versus Alves in the spotlight. They’re kicking off the bantamweight and women’s flyweight tournaments with this match-up.
Meanwhile, at the weigh-ins, Justin Wetzell tipped the scales at 138.4 pounds for his bout with Kasum Kasumov. A bit over, but no worries—PFL officials confirmed the fight’s still on for Friday.
All other fighters made weight without any drama. Liz Carmouche, a veteran of UFC and Bellator fame, came in at 126 pounds for her clash with Ilara Joanne (124.8 pounds).
