PFL announces focus on superfights & no plans to add 135 or 185 pound weight classes.

PFL will not be introducing new weight classes in 2024, but plans to hold a “mega-event” featuring PFL champions taking on Bellator champions, and aims to add bantamweight and middleweight divisions in 2025 while also planning eight marquee international events per year and exploring co-promotion opportunities with RIZIN.

PFL recently acquired Bellator and announced plans for a “mega-event” in 2024 featuring PFL champions taking on Bellator champions. However, PFL will not be introducing new weight classes in 2024, and founder Donn Davis revealed that they do not currently have champions for the bantamweight and middleweight divisions. While PFL isn’t adding those divisions to the 2023 season schedule, Davis suggests that Bellator champions and fighters will be involved in PFL’s upcoming “superfight” series and that they are planning eight major events per year.

Davis also mentioned that they plan to have a preliminary schedule for 2024 finalized in the next few weeks, with most of the events taking place outside of the United States. He expressed a strong focus on providing top-quality events for international fans.

Additionally, the PFL founder revealed that the promotion is open to co-promotion and has already reached out to RIZIN. He expressed interest in continuing a successful series like the “Bellator v. RIZIN” fight cards, showing a willingness to do things differently and pursue unique and exciting events for MMA fans.
