PFL Fighter Jay Jay Wilson Suspended for Steroid Use After Vape Pen Incident

PFL fighter Jay Jay Wilson received a three-month suspension for testing positive for steroids, which was later reduced after he cooperated with USADA’s investigation, and he has been eligible to compete since July 2024.

PFL fighter Jay Jay Wilson hit a snag with a three-month suspension after testing positive for steroids. The sample? It was collected way back in April 2024.

On Thursday, the United States Anti-Doping Agency dropped the news about Wilson’s sanction. Oddly enough, his ban ended seven months ago! Perhaps some weird twists in his case caused delays, but he’s been good to go since July 2024.

“Wilson, 27, tested positive for metenolone and its metabolite,” USADA said in a press release. This stuff is a Non–Specified Substance under Anabolic Agents, banned all the time by PFL’s rules.

Here’s where it gets interesting. During USADA’s investigation, Wilson spilled the beans that he shared a vape pen with a buddy who used metenolone orally just before. This buddy? Not under USADA’s watch. USADA dug deep and even worked with a WADA-accredited lab to confirm if this wild tale could be true. Yep, it took months!

In the end, tests backed up Wilson’s story. He got a lighter sentence because of it.

“Thanks to the study and reviewing past studies, plus the low levels in Wilson’s sample, USADA found his story believable,” they wrote. So, they cut down his suspension time significantly.

Wilson’s three-month suspension kicked off on April 1, 2024—the day his sample was taken. Nevada State Athletic Commission also handled this case per their rules.

Wilson hasn’t stepped into the cage since September 2023—before PFL snagged Bellator and merged rosters.

With his suspension over and done with, Wilson can jump back into action anytime now as PFL gears up for its 2025 season tournament in April.
