Pregnancy Test Forces Eidy Macias Removal from Brave CF 73 Fight

Eidy Macias pulled out of the Brave Combat Federation 73 card in Bogota, Colombia after a pre-fight test indicated she is pregnant; despite the shock, Macias and her husband are happy about the pregnancy and plan to resume her fighting career in the future.

Eidy Macias, a participant at Brave Combat Federation 73 scheduled to happen in Bogota, Colombia, will not be a part of the crew for Saturday’s event. The shocking news was shared by company officials who confirmed that Macias is pregnant. The strawweight fighter was set for a contest with Yasmeli Araque in the main card opener at the El Coliseo Salitre arena. Macias tipped the scales on Friday morning before learning about the pregnancy from her pre-fight exam. Though all prior tests were negative, the final one that was conducted returned a positive result.

The situation caught the Brave CF team off guard as they were unable to find a last-minute replacement for Araque. Despite this unexpected turn of events, officials maintained that both athletes would still receive their show money. Reflecting on her situation, Macias shared her surprise and disappointment. Having aspired to become the first Ecuadorian woman to fight at Brave CF, her dream will have to wait for now. She stated, “A few years ago, we kind of tried to have a baby, but time passed and our dream of me becoming a fighter became stronger than our dream of becoming parents. It’s a shock, but I’m still hopeful I can do that one day”.

The 24-year-old fighter from Ecuador had clinched the Inka FC strawweight championship in June, improving her professional MMA record to 5-0 by signing with Brave CF. Discussing the unexpected developments, her head coach and husband, Henry Moya expressed both shock and joy. He saw the pregnancy as “a gift for us,” and assured that Macias planned to resume her career in the future. Moya also believed that the pregnancy break would provide Macias time to recover from injuries to “come back even better.”

Despite believing in her resilience, Macias didn’t deny the disappointment and frustration associated with the unfolding events. “I was still pumped up to go, and ready,” she said. Despite encountering hurdles in the lead up to the fight – losing her first flight to Bogota and then being robbed at the airport – she was still determined to make it to the fight, emphasising her readiness and focus. Meanwhile, it’s confirmed that the Brave CF event continues as planned with eight bouts, featuring a 135-pound title bout between UFC veteran Jose Torres and Nkosi Ndebele.
