Cody Rhodes won the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40, defeating Roman Reigns with the help of Jey Uso, John Cena, Seth Rollins, and The Undertaker.
So, Cody Rhodes did it. He wrapped up WrestleMania 40 with a bang, snatching the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship from Roman Reigns. And guess what? He had a little help from some unexpected, yet legendary, pals.
Remember WrestleMania 39? Yeah, Rhodes didn’t quite make it then. But this time, even with the Bloodline rules in play (thanks to The Rock and Reigns beating him and Seth Rollins on night one), he had his moment. The guy nailed a three-count after one heck of a match.
Now, this wasn’t your average match. Reigns’ family members, including Jimmy Uso, Solo Sikoa, and The Rock, made appearances. But Rhodes wasn’t alone. He had Jey Uso, John Cena, Seth Rollins, and even The Undertaker backing him up. The result? A victory that sent the 70,000+ fans at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia into a wild frenzy.
Just like Saturday’s card, fighters from the past and present were tuned in. UFC stars like Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen were among the spectators. Check out their reactions to Rhodes’ victory and the unforgettable headliner.
Daniel Cormier (@dc_mma) tweeted, “Reaction: Great cash in by Damian Priest! Loved it. Loved Cody finishing story! Business wise is it the right move? Does it help to have a champion that is available always, seems to make them almost normal then fans turn on them!” (April 8, 2024)
Chael Sonnen (@ChaelSonnen) wasn’t as impressed, tweeting, “This celebration is the worst and least planned moment in the history of wrestlemania.” (April 8, 2024)
Juan Adams mma (@chosenjuan285) seemed to enjoy the main event, tweeting, “Haven’t watched wrestlemania in a minute but that main event!” (April 8, 2024)
Chael Sonnen (@ChaelSonnen) again expressed his disappointment, tweeting, “There is no explanation or justification for how awful this match is. There is nothing thus far that resembles a fight.” (April 8, 2024)
Valerie Loureda (@lolavicewwe) was on edge, tweeting, “I have so much anxiety watching this rn omgggggggg” (April 8, 2024)
