Jean Silva achieved a significant victory by defeating Drew Dober at UFC Denver, stepping in on short notice and causing a severe cut that led to the fight being stopped in the third round.
Jean Silva went from knocking out Charles Jourdain at UFC 303 to stopping another veteran in a higher weight class two weeks later. And he did so in memorable fashion.
Silva faced Drew Dober in a sure-fire Fight of the Night contender. This was the featured bout of UFC Denver on Saturday.
Stepping in as a short-notice replacement for Mike Davis, Silva nearly finished Dober at the end of the second round. But also opened up a nasty cut on Dober’s eyebrow that continued to get worse and worse as the fight went on.
After landing a brutal spinning elbow in the third round, the cut on Dober’s eye was jaw-dropping. While the hometown fighter tried to keep fighting and hide it from the referee, he couldn’t.
The fight was eventually stopped at the 1:28 mark of Round 3. Giving Silva the biggest win of his career to date.
See how UFC fighters reacted to this incredible battle between Silva and Dober:
Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson tweeted, “Gotta stop the fight..that cut is GROSS !!!!! #UFCDenver.”
Belal Muhammad chimed in with, “He’s a featherweight and took this short notice in altitude that guy’s a problem.”
Chris Curtis The Action Man simply said, “Damm… crushed for Dober.”
And there you have it! A night full of unexpected turns and unforgettable moments.
