Jon Jones successfully defended his UFC heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic with a dominant performance, solidifying his status as one of the greatest fighters in MMA history.
Jon Jones has added another legend to his hit list. In a clash of future Hall of Famers, Jones successfully defended his heavyweight title against two-time champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. The event took place Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Jones’ performance was one-sided, showcasing why he’s a threat in both light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions. He nearly finished Miocic in the first round with a powerful ground-and-pound assault. On the feet, he proved too fast and technical for Miocic.
By Round 3, Jones sealed the deal with a crippling body kick followed by finishing punches. It left little doubt that “Bones” was the superior fighter. As impressive as Jones was, the 42-year-old Miocic looked slow and sluggish at times.
UFC featherweight Sodiq Yusuff commented on social media, saying it felt like the Jake Paul fight all over again. This reference was about Paul’s dreary win over Mike Tyson on Friday. See more fighter reactions from social media below.

Cris Cyborg praised Jones, saying it’s a pleasure to watch him each time he steps into the cage. Aljamain Sterling gave hats off to Stipe Miocic, calling him the greatest heavyweight of all time despite the loss.
Rafael dos Anjos noted that both Jones and Do Bronx looked great, as if they were sparring. Kenny Florian acknowledged Jones’ many weapons and congratulated Miocic on an amazing career.
Vince Morales expressed fatigue watching older fighters get beaten up, noting it was a rough weekend for them. Finally, Ode’ Osbourne exclaimed about Jones’ performance, predicting he’ll go down as the greatest of all time for sure! #UFC309
