Pros React to Mike Perry Boxing Jake Paul

Jake Paul is set to fight Mike Perry on July 20 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, despite already being scheduled to face Mike Tyson on November 15, with the announcement generating significant reactions from the combat sports community.

Mike Perry has been calling for his chance to fight Jake Paul for quite some time. Now, the BKFC star gets his shot.

On Tuesday, Most Valuable Promotions announced that Paul and Perry are set to headline a July 20 boxing event. The venue? Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla.

Interestingly, this is the same arena where Paul brutally knocked out former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. That happened in their second meeting back in December 2021.

The announcement caught the combat sports community off guard. Why? Because Paul is already scheduled to face former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson on Nov. 15.

That bout with Tyson will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It’s an event that streams exclusively on Netflix for subscribers.

Despite the new booking with Perry, the fight with Tyson is still on. No changes there.

Of course, MMA fighters had their thoughts on the matchmaking. See how pro fighters—both in and out of the UFC—reacted to the Paul vs. Perry news.

Renato Moicano tweeted, “Mike Perry is the underdog against Jake Paul… is he the best underdog of the year!?” He used the hashtag #boxing.

Dillon Danis wasn’t as optimistic about Perry’s chances. “Mike Perry is a 0-1 boxer,” he tweeted. “Bare-knuckle fighting isn’t the same as boxing.”

Danis continued, “He’s going to get pieced up. Jake Paul only fights people he knows he can beat.”

He added that Paul sparred with Perry before, which influenced his choice. “Just like that bum Hasim Jr. We all saw how bad he was,” Danis concluded.

Billy Quarantillo had a different take: “Happy Perry gets his payday and this is 100% a way better fight than the Tyson fight.” He invited fans to Tampa and reminded them to check-in.

Jay Glazer gave props to Paul: “Wowww I give @jakepaul mad props for fighting @PlatinumPerry.” He called Perry an absolute savage and said this should stop all talk of questioning Paul’s opponents.

“Looking forward to this one,” Glazer added.

Mike Perry himself chimed in: “We’re set to fight July 20th,” he tweeted. Promising to give fans the fight they want to see, he vowed to put “Platinum pressure” on Jake Paul live in Tampa.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon, according to Perry’s tweet.

Jake Paul responded poetically: “1 Mike, 2 Mikes, 3 Mikes, 4.” He rhymed about every opponent touching the floor and mentioned his upcoming bout with Tyson in five months.

“So in the meantime me & Perry are going to make Tampa roar,” Paul continued. He ended by saying he’s ready for another win on July 20th.

And there you have it—plenty of buzz around this unexpected matchup!
