Renato Moicano Heartbroken After UFC 311 First-Round Loss

Renato Moicano, despite taking a last-minute fight against Islam Makhachev at UFC 311 and losing in the first round, expressed disappointment over missing his chance at the lightweight title but remains determined to continue pursuing his dream despite the challenges of age and limited opportunities.

Renato Moicano had just 24 hours to gear up for a showdown with lightweight champ Islam Makhachev at UFC 311. Despite the whirlwind preparation, he felt crushed by his performance.

Stepping into the main event was a golden chance handed to him after teammate Arman Tsarukyan bowed out due to a back injury. Sadly, Moicano didn’t last the first round, succumbing to a D’arce choke from Makhachev.

Nothing to be ashamed of, yet Moicano confessed he squandered his shot at glory. The toughest pill? He might not get another crack at the title.

“That wasn’t a one day notice. That was a life notice,” Moicano remarked to Joe Rogan post-fight. “I’m very sad.”

“I spent my whole life for this moment and I tapped in the first round. Islam was much better than [me] today. I had so much to say but that’s not the right time. I’m not done.”

His submission loss snapped a four-fight win streak, which saw stoppages over Jalin Turner and Benoit Saint Denis.

Though still a top-15 lightweight contender, Moicano knows time isn’t on his side at 35. Age, the ultimate adversary for any elite athlete.

Before the bout, he stressed urgency—no time to mess around. Now, after Saturday’s defeat, he’s unsure if another opportunity will arise but remains eager to try again.

And there you have it—a rollercoaster ride of emotions and aspirations in the octagon!
