Ronaldo Rodriguez suffered a challenging UFC Mexico event, losing to Kevin Borjas by unanimous decision, missing weight, requiring hospitalization, and ending his seven-fight win streak, though he remains in good spirits and accepts responsibility for the loss.
Ronaldo Rodriguez’s UFC Mexico outing? Yeah, it couldn’t have gone much worse.
“Lazy Boy” not only lost a lopsided unanimous decision to underdog Kevin Borjas, but he also missed weight by a pound the day before fight night. Oh, and as if that wasn’t enough, he apparently needed hospitalization after the contest. Yikes.
Rodriguez shared some pretty raw pictures and video of his health struggle on Instagram. Tough times.
But hey, with his wife Nina by his side, Rodriguez seems to be in good spirits despite this being his first UFC loss. The guy’s got over two million followers on Instagram, so he’s not short on support. Before this hiccup, he beat Ode Osbourne and Denys Bondar in the octagon and was riding high on a seven-fight win streak. Borjas put an end to that.
Missing weight came with its own price—Rodriguez was fined 20% of his purse for coming in at 127 pounds on Friday. Just one pound over the flyweight limit for a non-title bout, but rules are rules.
In an earlier post, Rodriguez made it clear he’s not making any excuses for the loss. Straight up accountability.
