Former UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas will move up to the flyweight division and face Manon Fiorot at UFC Paris on September 2.
Rose Namajunas, the former UFC strawweight champion, is making a move to the flyweight division for her upcoming fight at UFC Paris. Scheduled for September 2nd, Namajunas will be facing Manon Fiorot in her flyweight debut. The news was confirmed by MMAWeekly.com, following an initial report by MMAJunkie.
After losing the strawweight belt in a close split-decision loss to Carla Esparza in May of 2022, Namajunas is eager to make her mark in the flyweight division. Despite still being ranked No. 2 in the strawweight division, she is determined to climb the rankings at 125 pounds.
Namajunas will be going up against the No. 2 ranked flyweight, Manon Fiorot, who has been out of action due to injuries since her victory over Katlyn Chookagian in October of 2022. While champ Alexa Grasso is set for a rematch against Valentina Shevchenko, Fiorot cannot afford to stay on the sidelines for much longer. A win against Namajunas, a former champion, would secure her position in the division after the Grasso-Shevchenko fight.
For Namajunas, a victory in her flyweight debut against Fiorot could catapult her over the competition and establish her dominance in the division. There is a lot at stake in this bout, and both fighters will be giving it their all to secure their place in the flyweight ranks.
In addition to the Namajunas-Fiorot matchup, UFC Paris will feature a heavyweight main event between top contenders Cyril Gane and Serghei Spivac. The event promises to be an exciting night of fights, with fans eagerly anticipating the return of Rose Namajunas to the Octagon in her new weight class.
