After a controversial win, personal struggles, and a barrage of tweets expressing his frustrations, Ryan Garcia announced his retirement from boxing.
After pulling off a massive upset win in April, Ryan Garcia says he’s done with boxing.
Currently, Garcia earned a decision win over Devin Haney at an April 20 event in Brooklyn. However, the victory was marred by controversy after he tested positive for a banned substance. Garcia’s team claimed it was due to tainted supplements.
Adding to his troubles, Garcia was arrested for felony vandalism in Beverly Hills earlier this month.
With everything piling up, the star boxer unleashed a series of tweets on Wednesday announcing his departure from the sport.
“Mom has cancer,” he tweeted. “I’m being sued.” He continued, “My supplements were tainted,” and “Going thru a divorce.”
“Always GETTING SHIT TALKED on the internet FOR YEARS,” Garcia vented. “Devin asking for my victory to be taken away.” He added, “I’m getting hit with everything.”
Despite all this, he expressed his faith: “I STILL LOVE GOD, HE IS EVERYTHING.”
In another tweet, Garcia lamented how people judge him based on what he says. He referenced the Caleb Plant situation: “He talked about me when I never talked about him.”
“I’m going thru a really hard time in my life,” he admitted. “I’m human; I’m not God. I will make mistakes.”
Garcia emphasized he’s only tried to put money in everyone’s pockets.
“Boxing will be alright without me,” he wrote. “But still sucks I was fun in the game.” And candidly added, “And it was fun to punch people.”
“I MAY RETIRE IM DONE WITH THIS GAME,” another tweet read.
“Forget I existed everyone,” he declared.
“You may catch me out and about but as far as boxing I don’t know,” Garcia mused. “There is so much corruption I’m over it.”
He hinted at other ventures: “I may do acting or singing.” Yet assured fans he’d still be training.
“The sad part is I’m a great boxer,” he reflected. “And I entertain and knock people out…”
Finally, Garcia made it official: “I’m officially retired.”
In his last tweet on Wednesday night, Garcia reiterated his retirement.
Interestingly, he also teased dropping a “meme coin,” mentioned in replies to some posts.
If this marks the end of his career, Garcia retires at 25 with a pro record of 25-1 (20 KOs). His lone loss came in April 2023 when Gervonta Davis stopped him in the seventh round.
