Brady showcased relentless pressure and an improved striking game, never allowing Burns to find his rhythm. It was impressive, especially since Brady’s grappling was largely neutralized, forcing him to rely on other skills.
“Gilbert’s a tough motherf*cker,” Brady said post-fight. “I just stayed mentally and physically focused. I’m living my dreams, this is amazing.”
Burns resisted takedowns and quickly reversed positions when taken down. Despite this, Brady kept pushing into the clinch, aiming to wear Burns down with a grueling pace.
On the feet, Burns displayed power with his punches, but Brady held his own in striking exchanges. He often reverted to grappling, pressing Burns against the cage and seeking takedowns again.
When Burns found space, he landed stiff punches and knees that caught Brady’s attention. In response, Brady secured a takedown just before the third round ended.
Brady used a slick jab from the outside but still got hit by some big shots from Burns. He took those punches and returned to the clinch to slow things down.
Another big takedown from Brady followed, but Burns quickly reversed it, showcasing his elite grappling skills. With time running out, Brady targeted Burns’ legs with inside kicks.
Burns attempted a jumping knee but missed, leading to another takedown by Brady as he counted down the seconds to victory.
Brady has now defeated Burns and Kelvin Gastelum since losing to current welterweight champion Belal Muhammad in 2022. He hopes to face one of the division’s young stars next.
“I should be ranked way ahead of Ian Machado Garry,” Brady stated. “I want someone in the top five. If not, me and Ian got the same f*cking manager—run that shit.”
